# Prompt

> Reusable instruction templates for agents and teams

> Defines reusable instructions that agents and teams reference instead of repeating them inline.

## Example — Instructions

```

## Example — Template with variables

```yaml theme={"theme":{"light":"min-light","dark":"min-dark"}}

name: domain-expert

  template: "You are an expert in {{domain}}. Answer for a {{audience}} audience."
  variables:
    domain: "cloud infrastructure"
    audience: "beginner"
```

Reference the prompt from an agent:

## Notes

* Rendering: `instructions` are joined with newlines; `template` has its placeholders replaced by `variables`. When both are set, the rendered template is appended after the instructions.
* Every `{{variable}}` in `template` must have a value in `variables`, or the config is rejected.
* When an agent or team sets `prompt`, the rendered prompt replaces that agent's or team's own `instructions`.
* Updating a prompt re-renders it and propagates to every agent and team that references it.
